This morning we docked in Lae,PNG.It was very very hot and humid day.Had a stroll a shore but this is a place i will not miss.

Great topic, its so good to actually hear stories first hand rather than years later in books.
if anyones interested i do have an identical menu to the one pictured in this topic from the Queens fleet review visit to the QE2 1990 available on my website http://theboatdeck.co.uk/CunardLine/index.php

15 to 18 February 1991

After leaving Lae yesterday we set course to North taking us to Osaka. The first 2 days at sea was relaxing we only have onboard 800 passengers. On the morning of the 15th i got my pay wages a bit more of money in my pocket now,on the same day we crossed the Equator line. The sea was a bit choppy on the last 2 days but that is not a problem for the QE2.The temperature outside has dropped a bit.At least my cabin is not the warm anymore.I am looking forward for Osaka.........

This morning we docked at Tempozan Passenger Terminal. Its was a cold day, from the dock side i took the subway into the center.Went for lunch it was beautiful experience to enjoy food in a true Japanese ambiance and style.I had a great day.

Now we have 1 day at sea to Keelung,Taiwan.

21th February 1991

With a very overcast weather we docked in Keelung,Taiwan this morning.I was ashore only for about any hour, the place didnt look safe enough. There was heavy presence of military in the streets, when they spotted me with the camera i was told to put it away.

I am really looking for tomorrow when at lunch time we arrive in Hong Kong.

22nd February 1991

Today was the big day, just after lunch we arrived in Hong Kong. The ship had to slow down to make its way to terminal. Its a busy shipping lane. There is a lot of traffic small boats, big boats, cargo ships, ferries etc.Everbody seemed to be out on decks to see the ship make its way in.You look around and wow its an amazing place cant wait to go ashore later. For some of the crew its a good day today, its time to pack and head home tomorrow. For the ones joining its back to zero.

With ship docked and all tied up and gangways open,i still had my working shift ahead.I finished work around 1 in the morning rushed to my cabin got changed and went out to see the HK night life,it was Friday even better.I managed to catch up with some crew in bar and what a crazy night i had. .When i stumbled back to the ship the sun was coming up,had a quick breakfast and went down to my cabin for some needed sleep.I got a few hours sleep then it was back ashore again.Went for some chinese lunch in a back street restaurant done lots of shopping, stuff is cheaper here than back at home.

Today was also the leave the party the some old faces are back, good to see some of them. Now i cant wait for them to come back because i am next in line to have leave.Southampton here i come

Today was also a big storing day its the last on before the ship is back in Southampton.

In the afternoon was back to work with a new team. The Bartenders and PRS change bar once a month.I was asked to stay in Club Lido until Southampton.I dont mind it.

After work it was back to the HK night life.................

25th and 26th February 1991

The sun came up this morning with the ship in the South China Sea.The sea was rough and choppy at lunch time we had Force 8.This morning we had also Boat Drill i have a new muster station now,i am in Area Search that means that i have to ensure all persons have been evacuated to their emergency muster points.I also have to check for hot spots in event of a nearby fire.

My cabin mate had birthday today, that means that the cabin is turned into a party place.

26th February 1991

Today the sea was bit calmer than yesterday, still quite windy outside.

We also had cabin inspection this morning, when the Staff Captain came around we were still cleaning it.There was a lot of mess from the party.

Tomorrow morning we will be arriving in Pattaya, have heard a lot of stories about that place, ill find out if everthing is true
